Eleven BBI faculty members have been named to the annual global list of highly cited researchers.

The 11 represent all three BBI partner institutions – UW Medicine, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center, and Seattle Children’s – and are among nearly 7,000 who made the 2022 list from Clarivate, a London-based analytics firm.

The 11 are: Drs. David Baker, Trevor Bedford, Michael Boeckh, Evan E. Eichler, Janet Englund, Alex Greninger, Peter Nelson, Deborah Nickerson, William Noble, Jay Shendure, and Cole Trapnell. Nickerson’s recognition comes posthumously; she passed away in December of 2021.

All the individuals recognized by Clarivate represent universities, research institutes, and commercial businesses, “have demonstrated a disproportionate level of significant and broad influence in their field or fields of research,” according to a statement from Clarivate.

Sixty-nine countries and regions are represented, with the United States having the most (2,764) followed by China (1,169), and the UK (579). The 2022 list contains about 4,000 names in 21 fields of the sciences and social sciences and about 3,200 identified as having exceptional performance across several fields.
