Alpana Waghmare, M.D., associate professor, UW Medicine Division of Infectious Diseases, (far right), discusses her work with immunocompromised patients with nearly 50 summer interns from BBI, UW Medicine, Fred Hutch, and Seattle Children’s.
Joining her (left to right) are: Ayokunle Olanrewaju, Ph.D., Assistant Professor in the UW Departments of Bioengineering and Mechanical Engineering; Mariya Sweetwyne, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology; and Devin Schweppe, Ph.D., assistant professor, UW Genome Sciences.
BBI’s Lea Starita, Ph.D, Associate professor in the UW Department of Genome Sciences and co-director of the Brotman Baty Advanced Technology Lab, served as moderator at the event on July 14.
"The summer intern networking panel is my favorite BBI event every year," she said. "It brings together the next generation of scientists, not just to gain insights from faculty members, but also to learn from each other. I always come away with renewed energy after seeing the students' excitement for science."
